Bemutatkozás

Attila Mráz is a philosopher and lawyer, assistant professor at ELTE Eötvös Loránd University, Institute of Philosophy. His research interests are in political philosophy – in particular, democratic theory, political equality and affirmative action in political participation –  and political ethics, especially the moral issues of electoral participation. He holds a PhD in Philosophy from Central European University; his dissertation explored the limits of the justifiability of voting restrictions based on cognitive capacity and competence, in particular age restrictions and restrictions for adults living with intellectual disabilities. During his doctoral studies, he was a research fellow at New York University (Nagel-Balzan Fellowship), the University of Arizona, and Warwick University (Hungarian State Eötvös Fellowship). He held postdoctoral research positions at Harvard University (E. J. Safra Center for Ethics), Sciences Po Paris, Stockholm University (Centre for the Ethics of War and Peace), and Tel Aviv University (Buchmann Faculty of Law). Since 2022, he has been a recipient of the János Bolyai Research Scholarship of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, and in 2022–2023 and 2023–24 he held New National Excellence Programme fellowships. He is a multiple winner of the Publication Excellence Award at ELTE Faculty of Humanities, and a member of the editorial team of the journal Ethical Theory and Moral Practice. He is also a regular participant in science outreach programmes, including summer universities and roundtable discussions in Hungary and abroad, for example at the European Parliament, and regularly publishes essays written for the general public. As a member of the Research Support Committee of ELTE Faculty of Humanities, he is also involved in popularizing research ethics. He was a member of the “Culture” Jury of the Hungarian Scientific Research Fund (OTKA) in 2024. He is the supervisor of several doctoral dissertation projects and a prize-winning paper at the National Student Research Conference (OTDK), and has taught and given seminars at the Universität Luzern, the University of Groningen, and the Université Catholique de Lille.
