Judit Dombi is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Pécs. She obtained her PhD in 2013 and completed her habilitation in 2019. Her research focuses on intercultural communication, English as a Lingua Franca (ELF), as well as pragmatics and interaction analysis. In her work, she primarily examines how speakers from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds construct meaning in interaction, and how they manage asymmetries in communication.
In recent years, her research has extended to digitally and AI-mediated communication, with a particular focus on the linguistic and pragmatic characteristics of human–computer interaction. She has participated in numerous international collaborations across Europe and the United States, and her work is regularly published in international peer-reviewed journals.
In her teaching, she offers courses in applied linguistics, pragmatics, and language pedagogy, and actively supports students in their research activities. As a member of the Hungarian Young Academy, her aim is to strengthen scientific collaboration and support the professional development of early-career researchers. She lives in Pécs with her family and is the mother of two daughters, Izabel and Rebeka.
