BIO

Csaba Vad (Csaba Ferenc Vad), biologist, is the leader of the Plankton Ecology Research Group at the Institute of Aquatic Ecology, HUN-REN Centre for Ecological Research. He is an aquatic ecologist motivated to understand the responses of aquatic (primarily planktonic) communities to climate change and anthropogenic stressors, as well as their impacts on the functioning of freshwater ecosystems. He obtained his PhD degree at Eötvös Loránd University, Budapest, in 2014. He won the Jedlik Ányos Predoctoral Scholarship of the National Excellence Program (2013), the Campus Hungary Scholarship (2014), and the OeAD Ernst Mach Worldwide Grant (2015). He performed postdoctoral research at the inter-university research centre WasserCluster Lunz, Austria (2015-2018), where he was a Marie Skłodowska-Curie postdoctoral fellow from 2016 to 2018. Subsequently, he worked as a postdoc at KU Leuven, Belgium (2019, Laboratory of Aquatic Ecology and Evolutionary Biology), where he remained a visiting researcher until the end of 2023. Since 2019, he works at HUN-REN Centre for Ecological Research. He has published 37 papers in international peer-reviewed journals, receiving nearly 700 independent citations. In addition to supervising a number of MSc thesis projects, he is currently supervising four PhD theses. He has experience in leading national and international research grants (PI: H2020 MSCA, NKFIH FK OTKA, NKFIH TéT, institutional PI: H2020 AQUACOSM-plus).
