Bio

Levente Cseri is a research chemist at BrainVisionCenter, working at the interface of organic chemistry and materials science to develop molecules for biological applications. He obtained his PhD from the University of Manchester, where he developed polymer materials for membrane-based separation systems and gained experience in predictive modeling and various membrane technology processes. Following his PhD, he worked at Femtonics Ltd., where he led the synthetic development of fluorescent dyes. Since 2022, he has been a research chemist in the Department of Biological Chemistry at BrainVisionCenter. His research focuses on the design, synthesis, and characterization of voltage-sensitive dyes, photoactivatable molecules, and other small molecules for biological applications, in close collaboration with microscopy and neuroscience research groups. In recent years, he has been involved in several research and development projects related to fluorescent and photoactivatable systems, including the development of new fluorophores and sensors, as well as their application in microscopy. He has a well-established publication record and has participated in multiple collaborations within multidisciplinary research teams. In 2023, he was awarded the Bolyai János Research Scholarship and support from the New National Excellence Programme. In 2026, he received the Academy Youth Award and, from 2026, serves as principal investigator of an NKFIH NKKP research grant. In addition to his research activities, he gives regular lectures as a guest lecturer at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics and is involved in student supervision and mentoring. He also contributes to the peer review of scientific manuscripts and the evaluation of research proposals, and actively participates in science outreach activities.
