Bio

Éva Szabó graduated as a medical doctor at the University of Pécs, obtained her PhD degree in 2009 and habilitated in 2024. She spent six months as a postdoctoral researcher at the Laboratory of Metabolism at the Ludwig-Maximilians University in Munich. She is currently working as a senior lecturer at the University of Pécs Medical School, Department of Biochemistry and Medical Chemistry, where she is involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching of medical students and dietitians, as well as in curriculum development in Hungarian, German and English. She is also supervisor for several theses, undergraduate research students and PhD students at the Medical School and at the Faculty of Health Sciences. Her scientific interests focus on nutrition, with a special emphasis on the impact of fatty acid intake on health. Her research to date has focused on perinatal fatty acid supply, including the potential adverse effects of trans fatty acids in pregnant and lactating mothers and in newborns and infants. To date, she is the author of 29 international publications and three book chapters in English with 470 citations and an overall impact factor of ⁓140. She has participated in several national and international research programmes as a co-researcher, in one international and three national research programmes as a principal investigator. She is a recipient of the Henry Nestlé Award (2007), Foundation for Pharmaceutical Research in Hungary (2009), the Géza Petényi Award (2011), and the Outstanding Author Award of the University of Pécs (2023, 2024). She regularly acts as a reviewer for prestigious international journals, is an associate editor of Frontiers in Nutrition, and is a member of the scientific advisory board of the Journal of Nutrition and Dietetics (in Hungarian). She is a member of the Hungarian Society of Paediatric Gastroenterology, the Hungarian Society of Nutrition, the European Society for Paediatric Gastroenterology Hepatology and Nutrition and the International Society for the Study of Fatty Acids and Lipids. She is married with three children, Anna (2010), Zsófia (2012) and Dóra (2014).
