László Koók is a senior lecturer from 2022 and a senior research fellow from June 2025 at the Group on Bioengineering, Membrane Technology and Energetics at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Pannonia. He obtained his Bsc in biochemical engineering, MSc in chemical engineering and his PhD in 2022 at the PE Doctoral School of Chemical Engineering and Materials Sciences, in the field of bio-, environmental and chemical engineering. His research focuses on bioelectrochemical systems, innovative ion exchange membranes and electro-bio-refineries. He has developed extensive international contacts in recent years, which have led to several research activities at institutions abroad. In 2019, he visited the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research – UFZ in Leipzig as Campus Mundi fellow and in 2020, he was a DAAD visiting research fellow at the DBFZ German Biomass Research Center (3 months). In 2024, he conducted research at the INRAE-LBE in France, supported by a France Excellence Hongrie research fellowship (1 month). His work is noted in numerous publications, conference papers and book chapters, with nearly 1000 independent citations. His research has been recognized with prestigious awards such as the Ereky Károly Award (2015), VEAB Outstanding Young Researcher Award (2017), VEAB Best PhD Thesis Award (2022), Junior Prima Award (2022), Roska Tamás Award (2023), and the Young Scholar Award of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (2024). Currently, since 2025, he has been a principal investigator in an NKKP Starting project focusing on the synthesis and application of cellulose ionogel membranes. He is involved in the supervision of doctoral, MSc and BSc students, and is also the supervisor of several successful TDK and OTDK theses. He is an editorial board member of the journal Engineering in Life Sciences.
