Bálint Hartmann received an M.Sc. degree in electrical engineering and obtained his Ph.D. degree from Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME) in 2008 and 2013, respectively. He is a senior research fellow at the Centre for Energy Research and the head of the Energy Strategy and Environmental Effects (E-SEE) research group. He lectures at the Department of Electric Power Engineering, where he has supervised over 40 bachelor and master theses and is currently also a supervisor of 5 Ph.D. students. He was a guest researcher with Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Institute for Automation and Applied Informatics in 2015. He was a Board Member of the Hungarian Electrotechnical Association between 2013–2019 and the Chair of IEEE PES Hungary Chapter betwen 2019–2021. His fields of interest include the role of energy storage in power system, computer modelling and simulation of distribution networks and integration of variable renewable energy sources.
He was the leader of MTA-BME FASTER Lendület Research Group from 2019 to 2022, focusing on the development of a state estimator based modular toolset to assist observability, targeted dispatch and identification of grid reinforcement needs in distributed networks. He received the Youth Prize of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences in 2019. He was awarded the János Bolyai Scholarship of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences in 2019. His research and development project expertise includes 25 projects in the past 5 years. He is a work package leader and task leader in ongoing H2020 projects (FLEXITRANSTORE, INTERRFACE and FARCROSS). He is the author of 71 journal and 79 conference papers.
