The members of the Hungarian Young Academy were deeply shocked to learn of the Russian drone attack on the Kyiv building of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine on 28 September 2026, which claimed a life, injured several people, and caused severe damage to the Academy’s building.
We strongly condemn such acts of aggression, as well as all forms of violence against scientific, educational, and civilian infrastructure. Attacks on scientific institutions not only harm those working there and their immediate communities, but also endanger the conditions necessary for the creation and preservation of knowledge.
On behalf of the members of the Hungarian Young Academy, we express our solidarity with the researchers and all staff members of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the Ukrainian scientific community, and their families and loved ones. We extend our deepest sympathies to the family and loved ones of the victim and wish those injured a swift and full recovery.
