On 25 March 2024, the Multidisciplinary and Excellence Research Centre of the University of Pannonia held an event entitled “Is scientific publishing in crisis? New phenomena and possible responses”. Prof. László Kollár, MTA Secretary General, presented a position paper entitled “Proposals on how to handle articles from journals with objectionable practices”, whereas Andrea Balla, Head of the Secretariat of the MTA Secretary General and Deputy Secretary General presented developments related to CoARA in Hungary.
HYA board members Bálint Hartmann and Ákos Lencsés (on the cover) also gave presentations on research ethics and open access publishing. The presentations were followed by a roundtable discussion moderated by Prof. Mihály Pósfai, where Bálint and Ákos also answered questions from the floor.
The event was inspired by the January 2024 special issue of the journal Magyar Tudomány, entitled Küzdelem az új típusú publikációs visszaélésekkel [Fighting new types of publishing abuses], co-authored (among others) by several HYA members.
Videos of the presentations and the discussion can be viewed (in Hungarian) on YouTube:
