HYA event at Festival of Hungarian Science (MTÜ2022): New directions in cancer research and treatment
Malignant tumours are the dreaded and often fatal diseases of our time, and are among the leading causes of death in developed countries. The WHO predicts that their incidence will continue to rise over the next two decades. This global phenomenon is largely linked to lifestyle and environmental risk factors (smoking, alcohol consumption, poor diet, lack of physical activity, environmental pollution), but the increase in life expectancy at birth may also play a role. Nearly everyone has friends or family members affected by cancer. However, those outside the medical profession have limited knowledge about the history of cancer, its relationship with lifestyle, pathophysiology and modern treatment options. Our event aims to explore precisely these topics.
