Mission Statement
The aim of the Hungarian Young Academy (HYA) is to represent the interests of young researchers with authenticity while actively contributing to making Hungarian science more transparent, inclusive and competitive.
As the young researchers’ community of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA) and as MTA’s strategic partner, HYA takes part in the work of MTA through joint projects, events and science policy dialogues.
We consider it important to continuously build our visibility and credibility: to this end, we actively manage our communication channels, regularly present the scientific achievements and career paths of our members, and strive to shape scientific public life with our statements.
We are consciously expanding our professional network: we seek professional dialogue and exchange through national and international collaborations to broaden our members’ horizons and to enhance their scientific embeddedness.
We are committed to improving the research and funding conditions for researchers based in Hungary. In particular, we support early-career researchers in their applications through mentoring programmes, professional workshops and training.
Our activities include the promotion of the independence of science and researchers, and we call for the reform of researchers’ assessment. We are also committed to promoting work-life balance, improving the situation of women and researchers with small children, and advancing equal opportunities initiatives.
HYA also serves as a community: we provide a platform for knowledge sharing, and inspiring professional collaboration between our members as well as supporting the future generations of scientists. We believe that the power of science lies in strong communities of researchers united in collaborative thinking.
