On 5 November, the Hungarian Young Academy held a joint conference with the University of Pécs Library and Knowledge Centre in Pécs. At the event, participants discussed the current challenges of evaluating scientific performance, with a particular focus on the changes caused by the rise of modern technology and the distortion of scientometric indicators.
Five HYA members contributed to the event as speakers, roundtable participants, and workshop organisers. One of the speakers in the first half of the morning programme was HYA Co-chair Boldizsár Szentgáli-Tóth, who discussed the prospects and risks of using artificial intelligence in research. The second morning session featured a roundtable discussion in which the four panelists discussed current publishing trends and the latest library solutions. HYA Board Member Dávid Havasi, and HYA member Éva Szabó took part in this discussion on behalf of the Hungarian Young Academy. Lunch was followed by a workshop exploring the future of research evaluation, which also served as the closing event of the conference. The workshop itself was organised by two members of the Hungarian Young Academy: HYA Board Member Tamás Ruppert, and András N. Zsidó.
The diverse programme provided an excellent forum for the exchange of views on a number of current and widely relevant issues in academic life. The Hungarian Young Academy is eager to contribute to and participate in similar events, in line with its commitment to pursue such exchanges as widely as possible.
