As in previous years, the Hungarian Young Academy collected feedback on the 2025 National Research Excellence Programme’s call for proposals and, based on this feedback, it offered recommendations to the Research Excellence Council and the National Research, Development and Innovation Office. In our proposals, we highlighted positive changes affecting young researchers and the entire research community (e.g., increased funding, priority hiring of young researchers, simplifications in the application process). At the same time, we identified some additional areas that caused uncertainty and which would be worth amending in the 2026 call for proposals (e.g., the remuneration of principal investigators, the possibility of employing PhD students). The feedback gathered and the related suggestions were presented by the representatives of the Hungarian Young Academy at a constructive face-to-face meeting on 21 October 2025 to colleagues from the Research Excellence Council and NRDIO. During the meeting, the parties reviewed the changes that could be implemented as early as in the 2026 call for proposals. HYA will continue to keep the monitoring of domestic young researcher applications high on its agenda, and prioritise maintaining contact and cooperation with research funding institutions in the future as well.
