The Hungarian Young Academy has joined the CoARA agreement seeking to elaborate new methodologies for research assessment. Work on the agreement by the Coalition for Advancing Research Assessment began in January 2022 with the participation of 350 organisations from more than 40 countries. HYA is the eighth signatory of CoARA among national young academies. The Agreement on Reforming Research Assessment sets a shared direction for changes in assessment practices for research, researchers and research performing organisations in order to maximise the quality of research. As a fundamental principle, assessment should primarily be based on considerations of quality. The aim is to create an inclusive and cooperative community working shoulder to shoulder on the implementation of a higher-level, more efficient and more inclusive research system. CoARA provides an opportunity to develop pilot projects, methodologies and instruments. It supports common critical thinking and mutual learning while fully respecting the organisations’ autonomy.
