Call for applications for “Fekete Zoltán Young Mentor Award”

By establishing this award, the Hungarian Young Academy wishes to pay tribute to the memory of Prof. Dr. Zoltán Fekete (1984–2024), late member of the Hungarian Young Academy who passed away tragically young and whose dream was to set up a nationwide mentoring network to help the youngest generation of researchers.

The Deed of Foundation of the award is available here (only in Hungarian).

The call is open to researchers of Hungarian nationality or ethnic Hungarian researchers from higher education institutions in countries neighbouring Hungary who publish papers in Hungarian, have obtained a PhD degree or are PhD students who have successfully passed their complex examination, and are under the age of 40 in the year of application, with a maximum age allowance of 5 years for research time lost due to childbearing (maximum 2 years per child), long-term illness, or other verifiable individual circumstances.

Further requirements for eligible applicants:

  1. Applicants must have supervised the thesis(es) of student(s) who were awarded 1st, 2nd, 3rd place or a special prize in any section of the National Student Research Conferences (OTDK) held in the given year.

The following will be considered as an advantage in applications:

  1. The applicant has supervised the thesis(es) of students who achieved 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place or a special award at the internal (university-level) Student Research Conference (TDK) in the given year, or his/her students achieved OTDK and TDK placements in previous years under his/her supervision;
  2. The applicant has a verifiable record of mentoring activities.
