The Hungarian Young Academy (HYA; https://fka.mta.hu/en/) is pleased to announce the opening of membership applications for the term spanning 2025 to 2030.

The HYA is a grassroots scholarly society, established in 2019, inspired by international models, and operating in alignment with the public objectives of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA; https://mta.hu/english) as its affiliated partner. In this membership election cycle, up to 12 individuals may be admitted to the HYA, with their membership commencing on 1 May 2025. The list of current members is available at https://fka.mta.hu/en/members/. HYA members contribute to the organization’s activities on a voluntary basis, alongside their primary teaching and research responsibilities.

Applicants for HYA membership are assessed and selected on the basis of the following criteria: academic excellence, planned activities within the framework of membership, as well as geographical, institutional and disciplinary diversity. The application process and all activities within the organization are conducted in Hungarian, and applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements:

i) Applicants must have become members of the public body of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences by 1 September 2024 at the latest.

ii) Applicants must have obtained their first PhD less than 12 years ago (i.e., after 31 December 2012*).

iii) Applicants must not turn 41 in the year they become members (i.e., they must be born after 31 December 1984*).

iv) *In regard to points ii) and iii), an age allowance of up to five years may be applied in cases of documented career interruption due to childbearing (up to two years per child), long-term illness, or other verifiable individual circumstances.
