He earned his master degrees in Hungarian language and literature and history at E\u00f6tv\u00f6s Lor\u00e1nd University, and was a member of the E\u00f6tv\u00f6s J\u00f3zsef Collegium during his undergraduate studies. He also earned his Ph.D. at ELTE Doctoral School of Linguistics in 2013, within the framework of the Cognitive Linguistics and Stylistics subprogramme of the Hungarian Linguistics programme; his research topic was the elaboration of a cognitive poetic model of rhyme. Between 2012 and 2015, he worked as a secondary school teacher at the L\u00f3czy Lajos Grammar School in Balatonf\u00fcred; between 2015 and 2017, he continued his research in cognitive poetics of lyrical poetry as a postdoctoral researcher at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (hosted at the Institute of Hungarian Linguistics and Finno-Ugric Studies at ELTE). Since 2017, he has been teaching at the Department of Modern Hungarian Linguistics at ELTE: first as a senior lecturer and later as an associate professor with habilitation. He has been awarded the T\u00c1MOP Erd\u0151s P\u00e1l Young Researcher Fellowship, grants from the OTKA and the MTA for publications, and a creative grant from the NKA. In 2019, he was selected as an ELTE Promising Researcher, and from 2021 to 2024, he worked on a corpus linguistic analysis of personifying structures in the Hungarian language with the support of the MTA Bolyai J\u00e1nos Research Scholarship. He has served as a co-investigator on four OTKA and NKFIH research projects. In 2018, he founded the MetaID research group to conduct corpus linguistic studies of metaphorical expressions in the Hungarian language; the group has twice received funding from the National Laboratory for Social Innovation to conduct corpus linguistic and language technology analyses of metaphors in online discourses related to suicide. He has published two monographs in Hungarian (Establishing a Cognitive Poetic Theory of Rhyme, 2014; Introduction to Cognitive Lyric Poetics, 2016). He is the co-editor of three volumes of studies in Hungarian (Grammar, Discourse, Cognition, 2020; Personal Reference and Poetics, 2024; Corpus Linguistic Methods in Cognitive Linguistic Research, 2024), as well as one English-language collection of essays (Negative Emotions in the Reception of Fictional Narratives, 2022).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"G\u00e1bor Simon is a lecturer at the Faculty of Humanities at E\u00f6tv\u00f6s Lor\u00e1nd University, researcher at the ELTE DiAGram Research Center for Functional Linguistics, and leader of the ELTE DiAGram MeatID Research Group.
