He is a consultant neonatologist at Starship Children\u2019s Health in Auckland and a senior lecturer at the Liggins Institute, University of Auckland. His clinical interests include neonatal infections, including HIV and echocardiography.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He is also an enthusiastic researcher in the field of immunology, aiming to answer research questions spanning from his clinical experience leading to better diagnostic and treatment strategies for neonates, pregnant women and patients with autoimmune disorders. His current research project aims to elucidate why neonates are more susceptible to infections. The main method he employs for his research is flow cytometry.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">His achievements have been recognized by numerous awards and honours. He was selected for the Scholars Program of the International Society for the Advancement of Cytometry between 2012 and 2016. He was awarded the Junior Prima Award in Hungary in 2015. He participated at prestigious events such as the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting and the Falling Walls Conference in Berlin. He is a member of the Global Young Academy and the Young Physician Leaders program of IAP, and board member of the Paediatric Section of the Royal Society of Medicine as well as the German Society for Cytometry.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Gergely Toldi obtained his MD and PhD degrees at Semmelweis University, Budapest.
